Zavvi - The Home of Pop Culture
Space: 1999 is a Gerry Anderson cult classic, as unmissable today as it was when first conceived in 1973. Starring husband and wife team, Martin Landau and Barbara Bain, Space 1999 revolves around the crew of Moonbase Alpha, where scientific experiments are conducted and space data gathered.
Disaster strikes and the Moon is blown out of the Earth's orbit by a huge explosion emanating from man-made nuclear waste pits, causing it to drift endlessly through the void of space where the real adventures begin.

Comparing Networks Over Via Vision Blurays
I thourght I would post a compare on which is the better version of Space 1999 on Bluray as Via Vision in Australia has released a deluxe boxset that contains both season 1 and 2 where as this is being only season 1. If you are comparing both season 1 from both companies Via Vision has simply brought over all the same features from the Network release, there are no new features however I have found the Network Bluray seems to have a warmer look to the picture and although only on Bluray the skin tones appear to be more natural...the sound format being DTS 5.1 is exactly the same and it for an original mono broadcast sounds quite remarkable at times, the classic Space 1999 theme from Barry Gray will fill your surround speakers and there is a lot of exellent ambience throughout each episode.I compaed the two different versions on a Samsung 4k 75inch OLED and simply found the Network version of season 1 seemed far more natural in picture quality..however who can rwally complain...this is Space 1999 on Bluray.
