Fishing with John is the bizarre and often hilarious 1991 cult TV series directed by and starring actor and musician John Lurie. On the surface, the series resembles a standard travel show, but in the hands of Lurie, it quickly become apparent that this film has little to do with fishing, not least because Lurie seems to know nothing about the subject. In each episode Lurie takes a guest on a fishing expedition to various beauty spots around the world, where the focus is on the relationship between the men as they ponder the meaning of life the nature of existence. Traveling with his special guests to the most exotic and dangerous places on earth, John Lurie battles sharks with Jim Jarmusch, goes ice fishing with Willem Dafoe, braves the Costa Rican jungle with Matt Dillon, takes Tom Waits to Jamaica, and searches for the elusive giant squid with Dennis Hopper in Thailand.
