In 1989, Walt Disney Studios released a new animated feature film: The Little Mermaid. The story follows a rebellious 16-year-old mermaid called Ariel, who is fascinated with life above the waves. During one of her regular visits to the surface, an act forbidden by King Triton (her father), she falls in love with a human prince by the name of Eric. Smitten, she makes a dangerous deal with the sea witch Ursula to become a human for three days. However, she loses her voice in the process and must receive a kiss from her true love within the time limit. If she fails, Ursula will turn her back into a mermaid and claim ownership.
