"Portamento" is the eagerly awaited second full length album by the American indie band The Drums, whose music is built together on a Beach Boys styled sound with a grungey yet upbeat indie pop twist. The lyrics are more intimate and more mature, as is their more developed sound, proving this band is only getting better as time goes by. There are still poignant and melodic sweeps featured throughout, with Johnny Pierce's vocals still gruff yet sweet, and the definitive throb of bass fleshing each song out perfectly with the combination of the synth and vintage styled guitar melodies.

This album features the brand new single "Money", a beach pop song with an incredibly catchy chorus, and definitely a more personal feel to it than The Drums' previous releases, showing their more broad approach to their more developed sound. (Cat Emerson)
