An Animated Classic

Walt Disney's 1940 animated classic Fantasia consists of eight animated parts set to pieces of classical music conducted by Leopold Stokowski. One of the segments, and perhaps the most famous of all, features Mickey Mouse in Paul Dukas' ‘The Sorcerer's Apprentice’ battling brooms carrying endless buckets of water.

Also included are Tchaikovsky's ‘Nutcracker Suite’ and the delightful ‘Dance of the Hours’ by Ponchielli, with dancing hippos, crocodiles, ostriches, and elephants - among other famous segments.

Fantasia is the 23rd highest-grossing film of all time in the U.S., and the franchise as a whole has grown to include video games, Disneyland attractions, a live concert series, and a sequel: Fantasia 2000 (1999).

In 1990, Fantasia was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry, making this an absolute must-see for fans of animation.
