No Place Like Home

Released in 1939, The Wizard Of Oz is a musical film based on L. Frank Baum’s children’s fantasy novel The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz (1900). Victor Fleming directed the movie, working with stars such as Judy Garland (Dorothy), Ray Bolger (the Scarecrow), Jack Haley (the Tin Man), and Bert Lahr (the Cowardly Lion).

The story follows the fantastical adventures of Dorothy, who is whisked away to the magical land of Oz after a tornado rips through Kansas. Alongside her dog, Toto, she follows the yellow brick road towards the Emerald City in hopes of meeting the Wizard, whom she believes can send them home. En route, Dorothy meets multiple individuals who are likewise in need: Scarecrow (who desires a brain), Tin Man (who desires a heart), and the Cowardly Lion (who desires courage). When they arrive, the Wizard requests that they bring him the broom belonging to the Wicked Witch Of The West, an evil individual who has been pursuing Dorothy to reclaim her sister’s ruby slippers.

Since its release, the film has become a staple of pop culture. A global audience of fans recognise the incredible musical score and memorable cast of characters. In recognition, The Wizard Of Oz was nominated for six Academy Award, including Best Picture.
