A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night

A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, 2014, Dramatic Horror Romance (Farsi, B & W), 101 min ***** This will be hit or miss for some people, a black and white movie in Farsi that I viewed with subtitles, an atypical vampire movie with a great soundtrack and light on dialogue, made by a Persian, English speaking born American citizen, Ana Lily Amirpour, and starring Persian actors based in the USA. A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night, has a comic book bought to life vibe, situated as it is in, Bad City, an Iranian fictional ghost-town populated by gangsters, prostitutes, drug addicts, survivors and victims. Sheila Vand, stars as the skateboarding girl/vampire, giving a performance where she is both vulnerable and terrifying. Fans of, The Black List (seasons 2-6), will recognise, Mozhan Marnò, who plays a prostitute. Although she plays a Mossad agent in, The Black List, Mozhan Marnò, also has a Persian background. All the cast are solid, the cinematography is proficient, and there is also a Western genre vibe to this movie that can really be understood as an understated romance. Viewed on DVD. Reviewed November 2020.
