Set in the early 1960's Jenny (Carey Mulligan) is an extremely intelligent girl approaching her 17 birthday who is doing all she can to fulfil her parents wishes and get into Oxford University. However when she meets a man double her age (Peter Sarsgaard) who shows her another way to live she has to decide whether to pursue her own aspirations or those of her family.
