Elephant was inspired by the tragic events at Columbine high school, where two students embarked on a massacre before committing suicide themselves. Shot on location in an everyday American high school, with a cast made up primarily of students from the surrounding area, Elephant won the Palme D’Or at Cannes and is one of the director’s most powerful and acclaimed films to date.
