The World’s Mightiest Mortal

Created in 1939 by Bill Parker and C.C. Beck, Shazam (formerly known as Captain Marvel) first appeared in Whiz Comics #2, a series of comics published by Fawcett Comics. The character made his live-action film appearance in 2019’s Shazam movie, joining the established DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

Shazam! centres around a 14-year-old foster child called Billy Batson (Asher Angel), who is deemed worthy by Shazam (Dijmon Hounsou), an ancient wizard who has spent centuries searching for someone whom he could bestow his powers to and name champion. Discovering that he has gained superpowers, Billy says the wizards name and is transformed into a costume-wearing adult (Zachary Levi).

A new threat arises in the form of Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong), who was corrupted by the Eye Of Sin at the Rock Of Eternity and became the host and vessel for the Seven Deadly Sins, seven powerful beings that were imprisoned for centuries by the wizard. Billy, alongside his newfound siblings — Freddy Freeman (Jack Dylan Grazer), Darla Dudley (Faithe Herman), Mary Bromfield (Grace Fulton), Eugene Choi (Ian Chen), and Pedro Peña (Jovan Armand) — must fight Sivana and protect the world.
