The Brothers - Series 6
A$62.99
Series 6 continues the dramatic story of the Hammond family and their lucrative family business 'Hammond Transport Services', following the death of patriarch Robert Hammond, who died while "doing the nasty" with his secretary. Tensions run high when shares in the family business are shockingly split not just between the three brothers, but also with Robert's secretary Jennifer (Jennifer Wilson – Z Cars). Each shareholder has different ideas on how to run the business.
Edward (Patrick O'Connell – Fraud Squad) is a no nonsense, well-paid accountant who feels he was most qualified to run the whole business by himself; David (Robin Chadwick – Pride and Prejudice (1967)) is a disinterested "second class honours, first class layabout" arts graduate and playboy with a glamorous girlfriend (Gabrielle Drake); while Brian (Richard Easton – Finding Forrester) is a dull accountancy wizard with a controlling wife. Throw domineering mother Mary (Jean Anderson – The Railway Children) in to the mix and The Brothers delivers a winning formula of power struggles and family feuding that kept fans devoted.
Doctor Who fans can also rejoice at the return of Colin Baker as ruthless city banker Paul "most hated man in Britain" Merroney, and the equally ambitious Jane Maxwell (Kate O'Mara) to continue their on-screen business rivalry. Fascinating fact for you: O'Mara and Baker's on-screen rivalry sparked off in The Brothers would continue in another face off, this time on the set of Doctor Who where Baker played the sixth incarnation of The Doctor and O'Mara was cast as evil Time Lady 'The Rani'.
In this penultimate series, Edward and Jennifer experience family trauma as they battle to keep their adopted baby, after its natural mother begins to have a change of heart. Hammond Transport Services seeks to expand into France, where David is dazzled by man-eater Thérèse d’Alambert (Françoise Pascal – Mind Your Language). And Jane Maxwell senses trouble when a private jet brings an overseas speculator onto the scene, who duly makes an unwelcome offer for the company. With gripping boardroom drama, unlike anything you’ll find on television today, family tragedy, financial struggles, secrets and betrayal, this is a series that will be welcomed by all fans of The Brothers. And, it’s a great opportunity for fans of classic BBC drama to get stuck in to the ways and woes of the alluring Hammond family.
