What Is American Pie About?

Released in 1999, American Pie (the first entry in a series of comedy movies) marked the directorial debut of Paul Weitz. The plot is relatively simple, focusing on a group of friends — Jim Levenstein (Jason Biggs), Chris ‘Oz’ Ostreicher (Chris Klein), Kevin Myers (Thomas Ian Nicholas), Paul Finch (Eddie Kaye Thomas), and Steven Stifler (Seann William Scott) — who make a pledge to lose their virginities before they graduate from East Great Falls High.

Throughout the course of the story, the friends pursue different romantic interests with limited success. Their desperate attempts result in a great many moments of humour, such as Jim being caught on webcam as he awkwardly attempts to have sexual relations with Czechoslovakian exchange student Nadia (Shannon Elizabeth) and Finch experiencing loud diarrhoea after Stifler spikes his drink with a laxative.
