Origin Of The Super Soldier

Steve Rogers / Captain America was created to propagate the agenda of the United States during the Second World War. To this end, his creators — Joe Simon and Jack Kirby — wrote stories that pitted him against the Axis powers, and this made the character an immediate hit with readers, who could rally behind this fictional icon.

In the Marvel Universe, Rogers is depicted as the product of an experimental drug known as the super-soldier serum, which gave this frail specimen peak-human abilities. Donning a uniform and shield resembling the American flag, he aided the military until the point when he was encased in ice. Many decades passed before the lost hero was reanimated; however, he continues to partake in heroic deeds, lending his aid to S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers, the latter of which he joined in the fourth issue of the team’s debut series.

On the big screen, Rogers has cemented himself as an integral part of the superhero community, appearing in The First Avenger (2011) before joining Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in Avengers Assemble (2012). Like his comic-book predecessor, this live-action iteration has faced a great many threats, including Johann Schmidt / Red Skull (Hugo Weaving), Bucky Barnes / Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), and Helmut Zemo (Daniel Brühl).
