A Different Kind Of Hero

Black Widow (a.k.a. Natasha Romanoff) made her first appearance in Marvel comics in ‘Tales of Suspense #52’ (1964) and was created and conceptualised by writer Stan Lee and artist Don Heck.

The red-headed Russian hero is a master in the covert arts of espionage and infiltration, while also being an expert martial artist with incredible agility and athletic abilities.

Throughout her tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), Black Widow is the Marvel spy-turned-superhero played by Scarlett Johansson. In the film series, Black Widow is an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., working with Nick Fury and Agent Coulson, and a founding member of the Avengers alongside Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Captain America, and Hulk.

She made her first film appearance in Iron Man 2 (2010) and has since featured in The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

The Black Widow movie (2020) from Marvel Studios, is the first time the origin story of the eponymous heroine is explored. Florence Pugh features as Natasha’s surrogate sister Yelena Belova and David Harbour features as the Red Guardian. The much-anticipated Black Widow film delves into the character’s complex history - as hinted at in prior instalments.
