STAR TREK: INTO DARKNESS brought back one of the greatest villains of Trek lore: Khan. The movie revealed little of his background, so for volume 36 of the Star Trek Graphic Novel Collection, IDW created a miniseries to fill this space.

The appearance of Khan shocked audiences as it was a clear departure from the character STAR TREK fans were used to. INTO DARKNESS did not provide any explanation to what happened to Khan, and if there was a reason he looked different.
