Quite simply, this is one of the very best werewolf films ever made. Released in 1980, the state of the art special effects and makeup (prosthetics -no CGI) by Rob Bottin are better than today’s offerings. The transformation scenes are particularly realistic and horrifying. The tongue in cheek script pays homage to the classic Universal monster films of the 50s with many characters named after their directors. And while it was made about 40 years ago, this film is more terrifying than today’s modern monster flicks. I’ve watched this film about 10 times and I still love it. A magnificent piece of horror from a director (Joe Dante) at the top of his game.
