Directed by James Cameron, the first Terminator film was released in 1984 and followed by multiple sequels — Judgment Day (1991), Rise Of The Machines (2003), Salvation (2009), Genisys (2015), and Dark Fate (2019). Since the original movie, the fan-favourite science-fiction franchise has expanded with TV series, comic books, and video games.

Terminator centres around the human–machine war, which has ravaged a near-future Earth. Led by John Connor, humanity has managed to fight back against the artificial intelligence Skynet and is close to achieving victory. Knowing this, the machines send a new android known as a Terminator (Arnold Schwarzenegger) back in time to assassinate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton), John Connor’s mother. Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn) is also sent to the past, his mission to protect her. When he arrives in 1984, he explains about the rise of Skynet and protects her from the human-disguised android.

Many of the sequels focus on the machine’s attempts to kill various threats in the past. However, Salvation places audiences in the midst of the war itself, starring Christian Bale as John Connor.
