Going My Way:
Going My Way is a heartwarming and original film that captured seven Oscars including Best Actor (Bing Crosby), Best Picture and Best Director. When young Father O'Malley (Crosby) arrives to join the congregation at an old established church, things get complicated. St. Dominic's crusty old Father Fizgibbon (Barry Fitzgerald) doesn't think much of O'Malley or his idea. These two priests simply can't agree. But when O'Malley's fresh methods succeed in reaching out to the neighbourhood's toughest kids the community starts to change. The neighbourhood becomes closer as the church's meaning grows dearer to their souls. Going My Way is filled with music, from the classic "Ave Maria," sung by Metropolitan Opera star Rise Stevens, to the light-hearted "Three Blind Mice" and the Academy-Award - winning "Swinging on a star".
The Glenn Miller Story:
Glenn Miller is playing his terrific band hits again in this stunning musical biography. The great Jimmy Stewart and June Allyson star in this vibrant tribute to one of America's legendary bandleader's, charting Miller's rise from obscurity and poverty to fame and wealth in the early 1940's. The wonderful score swings with the original Miller music performed by the Glenn Miller Orchestra and such musical giants as Louis Armstrong, Gene Krupa, Frances Langford and the Modernaires. Rounding out the great cast are such favourites as Henry Morgan (M*A*S*H), Charles Drake and George Tobias. Tastefully directed by Anthony Mann, Glenn Miller's dynamic sound of swing comes alive once more.
