A Classic Tale

‘Cinderella’ is the main character in Disney’s 1950 animated film. This popular Disney Princess story captured the hearts of Disney fans around the world and established itself as one of the most iconic tales of its time.

Telling the story of an orphaned girl, the film captures Cinderella’s mistreatment at the hands of her wicked stepmother and two jealous stepsisters who keep her enslaved. When the family are invited to the royal ball, her fairy godmother appears and magically transforms the common girl into a princess.

During the ball, the handsome Prince Charming falls in love with her. But Cinderella is forced to leave abruptly, as the Fairy Godmother’s spell wears off at midnight. Leaving behind a single Glass slipper, Prince Charming travels through the kingdom to find his princess.

As one of the greatest stories of all time, Cinderella has been retold and adapted several times and over multiple decades, including Disney’s live-action remake in 2015.

The story is based on legends and folktales, such as the one published by the Brothers Grimm in their folktale collection Grimms' Fairy Tales, in 1812.
