Apes Together Strong

Starting off as a novel by Pierre Boulle called La Planète Des Singes (1963), the Planet Of The Apes franchise has existed for multiple decades. In 1968, the book was adapted into a live-action film simply titled Planet Of The Apes. The movie starred Charlton Heston, Kim Hunter, and Roddy McDowall — amongst others.

The plot of the film begins with an astronaut crew crashlanding on an unknown planet in the year 3978. In this dystopian future, talking apes have become the dominant species and enslaved humanity, who have regressed into primitives.

Since the original film adaptation, there have been various spin-offs and sequels. A 2011 reboot explored the origins of ape society, telling the story of the first intelligent ape over the course of a trilogy: Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes (2011), Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes (2014), and War For The Planet Of The Apes (2017).

The narrative follows a chimpanzee named Caesar (Andy Serkis), who gains human-like intelligence and emotions after being given an experimental drug. Scientist Will Rodman (James Franco) and a primatologist called Caroline Aranha (Freida Pinto) raise Caesar like a child until he is taken away from them and placed in an ape sanctuary, where he assembles a simian army using the same drug he was given.

Over the course of the next three films, the army of apes establishes its own society and wages a war against the humans that will determine who will emerge as Earth’s dominant species.
