Travel back to where it all began with Zavvi AU’s wide range of Star Wars Original Trilogy merchandise. Inspired by director George Lucas’s critically acclaimed science-fiction franchise, our products include a variety of DVDs and Blu-rays, Funko Pop! Vinyls, action figures, clothing, and more.

The Saga Begins

In 1977, Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope (formerly known simply as Star Wars) was released. A Lucasfilm production, the film introduced audiences to a galaxy far, far away and became an instant classic. Following on from this, two direct sequels were released to round out the original trilogy: The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return Of The Jedi (1983).

A New Hope begins with a Rebel Alliance ship being pursued by a Galactic Empire Star Destroyer after they stole plans to a planet-destroying space station, the Death Star. The Sith Lord Darth Vader (David Prowse/James Earl Jones) boards the starship; however, the droids R2-D2 (Kenny Baker) and C-3PO (Anthony Daniels) manage to escape with the data. In search of a Jedi Knight called Obi-Wan Kenobi (Alec Guinness) — now known as Ben Kenobi — they land on the desert planet Tatooine, where a young moisture farmer called Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) purchases them from a group of scavenging Jawas. Upon learning about his father’s affiliation with the Jedi during the Clone Wars, Luke takes up his father’s blue lightsaber and leaves his home planet to aid the Rebels. This choice brings him into contact with Han Solo (Harrison Ford), Chewbacca (Peter Mayhew), and Princess Leia Organa (Carrie Fisher).

Star Wars: Episode V – The Empire Strikes Back picks up three years after the events of the first film. The Death Star now destroyed, the Empire is in pursuit of the Rebels’ hiding place. Darth Vader, courtesy of a probe droid, tracks them to the planet Hoth. Following a bloody battle, Luke travels to the swamp planet Dagobah to seek out Jedi Master Yoda (Frank Oz), whom a Force ghost of the deceased Ben Kenobi instructed him to find. Meanwhile, the crew of the Millennium Falcon attempt to outrun the bounty hunter Boba Fett (Jeremy Bulloch), set upon them by the Imperials. This leads them to Cloud City, a floating metropolis on Bespin. Here they encounter Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams), and Luke finds out a shocking truth.

Star Wars: Episode VI – Return Of The Jedi wraps up the arc of the original trilogy, presenting the Rebels’ final attempts to bring down the Empire. During the film, Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid) personally overseas the construction of a new Death Star, and Luke attempts to bring Darth Vader back to the light side of the Force.
