Tyrone Power Collection
A Yank In The R.A.F.
Tyrone Power and Betty Grable are captivating in this romantic WWII drama. When slick, money-motivated pilot Tim Baker (Power) takes a high-paying job ferrying bombers across the Atlantic, he meets up with Carol (Grable), an old flame who sparks enough new heat that Baker joins England's R.A.F. just to be near her. But Carol is also pursued by another pilot - Baker's superior officer. And when Baker must begin flying bombing missions, life suddenly takes on far more meaning than ever before. Featuring actual aerial combat footage and Grable's classic musical numbers, A Yank in The R.A.F. is an engagingly dramatic love story.
The Mark Of Zorro
This swashbuckling remake of the silent classic stars Tyrone Power as the dashing masked avenger who single-handedly saves Los Angeles from Spanish despots. Don Diego Vega (Power) is summoned home from his elite training corps in Spain to California, where he finds his father, Alcalde, deposed and the people living in tyranny. Disguised as Zorro, a sword-wilding mystery man dressed in black, he works to restore his father to power and return tax money stolen by the villains (J. Edward Bromberg, Basil Rathbone). He even finds time to romance the ruling tyrant's beautiful niece (Linda Darnell).
The Razor's Edge
Tyrone Power and Gene Tierney bring renowned novelist W. Somerset Maugham's bestseller to life in this mesmerising film classic which questions society's values. Narrated by on-screen observer Maugham (Herbert Marshall), this intriguing tale centres on a soul-searching World War I veteran (Power) who finds he cannot settle back into the world of the upper class. Shunning his planned marriage and career, he travels abroad to seek the meaning of life and causes his distraught finance (Tierney) to seek solace with another man (John Payne). Co-starring Oscar winner Anne Baxter.
In Old Chicago
The film's amazing 20-minute recreation of the Chicago fire if 1871 is considered one of the great cinematic achievements. The story centres on the O'Leary family, pioneer settles whose eldest boys achieve notoriety and power in bustling Chicago. After Jack (Don Ameche) is elected mayor with the help of his popular brother Dion (Tyrone Power), the two lock horns over the future of Chicago's slums.
Second Fiddle
The backdrop is 1930s Hollywood... a time when movie moguls rule the studios and stars do what they're told for the sake of their latest picture. In this witty, tongue-in-cheek musical comedy. Tyrone Power is Jimmy Sutton, the consummate studio publicist who knows how to get headlines - even if he has to make them up. Rudy Vallee is Roger Maxwell, the singing film star who needs all the attention he can get. And Sonja Henie is the Minnesota school teacher who miraculously lands the most coveted role in Consolidated Studio's newest picture. Snappy dialogue and a wonderful score make Second Fiddle a charming fictional account of Hollywood in its heyday.
