We are taken back in time to ancient days of the original Shaolin Temple, a Japanese 'Samurai' has requested to train with the monks, as he is the best swordsman in Japan, his name is Lu Hsing-I Poo from the province of Lu Shiang. The Samurai is refused permission by allies of the Shoalin Temple challenging him to a duel; he defeats his opponents and continues on his journey towards the Shaolin Temple.
Meanwhile, Tiger Koo, a war lord for the reigning emperor has sent out his guards with orders to kill general Hung and his family, this they do with the exception of the general's son Hsiung Chih, who escapes with his martial arts master and his son, but they are pursued by Tiger Koo's guards, and in order for them to escape, the old master sacrifices his life. Whilst on the run from the guards they fight off a gang who are attacking the Samurai, but one of his attackers escapes and tells the story to Cheung Leung, one of Tiger Koo's guards, with his knowledge they set off after the fugitives again, this time they kill the young master and Hsiung Chih supposedly falls to his death. Luckily he falls on soft ground and is found by the Samurai's sister and a drunk Shaolin Monk who tells her that the Shaolin Monastery will look after him. At the Monastery he tells them of the treachery of the Emperors War Lord. the head monk accepts him as a monk to the Shaolin temple and changes his name to Woo-Yin, here he learns kung fu, especially the secrets of Shaolin drunk fighting from master Yuen Hong.
Tiger Koo never stops his search for the witness to his evil crime and keeps his guards searching on for Hsiung Chih for years. Eventually they find him and all hell breaks loose as Tiger Koo sends guards, ninja's and the Samurai to kill Hsiung Chih, and so the Shaolin temple has to come up with a secret plan to save it's student with honour, and fulfil his own family revenge plot.
