The Fastest Man Alive

The original iteration of the Flash made his first appearance in Flash Comics #1 (1939), having been created by writer Gardner Fox and artist Harry Lampert. A superhero gifted with the power of immense speed, the moniker of the Scarlet Speedster has been passed down to a variety of individuals, the most notable of these being Jay Garrick, Barry Allen, Wally West, and Bart Allen. Each of these heroes has contended with some of the DC Universe’s most infamous villains: the Reverse Flash, Gorilla Grodd, Captain Cold, Captain Boomerang, Heatwave, the Thinker, and the Turtle — amongst others. Notably, the red-clad hero’s rogues’ gallery is unique, as some of them heil from different timelines (a consequence of the character’s ability to time travel).

Outside of the comics, the Flash has transitioned to various forms of media, the most prolific of which is a live-action TV series created for the CW. Starring Grant Gustin in the leading role, the show follows Barry Allen, a crime-scene investigator who acquires superhuman abilities after being exposed to a particle accelerator designed by S.T.A.R. Labs. He uses his newfound speed to fight against the criminals of Central City and the emerging supervillains.

In addition to the small screen, the Scarlet Speedster (played by Ezra Miller) is a member of the Justice League in the theatrical DC Universe. He appeared in a brief cameo in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice (2016) before taking centre stage in Justice League (2017) and his own solo film.
