One Person’s Craziness Is Another’s Reality

Over the course of many decades, Burton has left his mark on the world of cinema. He has helmed many a blockbuster film, including Beetlejuice (1988), The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993), Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street (2007), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Mars Attacks! (1996), Batman Returns (1992), Frankenweenie (2012), Dark Shadows (2012), Charlie And The Chocolate Factory (2005), Alice In Wonderland (2010), Sleepy Hollow (1999), Corpse Bride (2005), Planet Of The Apes (2001), Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children (2016), Dumbo (2019), and more.

Prior to becoming famous, Burton started off making short films in his back garden — often using stop-motion animation. Reportedly, his oldest film is The Island Of Doctor Agor. His later work, notably Stalk Of The Celery Monster, attracted the attention of Disney, who offered him a place at the studio as an apprentice in animation. Eventually, he would go on to direct Beetlejuice, which became a hit and gave him the opportunity to work on his first big-budget film: Batman (1989).

During his career, Burton has worked with various high-profile individuals. He is perhaps best recognised for his frequent collaborations with actors Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter as well as composer Danny Elfman.
